Refugee Support - UK

Third Wave Refugee Support Project is a voluntary and not-for-profit project for the promotion and protection of  refugee rights.

TWRS was established in 2002. It endeavours to assist refugees and asylum seekers living in the locality of our members to be in a better place to access services.  It endeavours to provide additional practical support to assist refugees and asylum seekers to adjust to life in Britain and to maintain individual and collective confidence, purpose and integrity .

The current economic downturn has had a disproportionately negative impact upon refugee communities. Appropriate enablement and support is crucial for refugees on their recovery journeys and building strong social networks can help 'insulate' refugee communities from the adverse impacts of  tough economic times.

We fundamentally believe that a strong community can only truly flourish when all its members are valued, treated with respect and integrity. It has become imperative that for the well-being of all our communities, the plight of this marginalised group be highlighted.

Main aims of Refugee Support Project:

  • To promote the physical and mental well being of refugees and asylum seekers and assist them in making better informed decision about adapting to life in the UK.
  • To become an additional voice for this community and to encourage positive approaches towards issues surrounding refugees and asylum seekers.
  • To challenge the unjust and unfair treatment of refugees and the current welfare of people seeking asylum in the United Kingdom.

Main areas of work are:

  1. Information and inquiry
  2. Signposting
  3. Mentoring and befriending
  4. Art and cultural promotion
  5. Advocacy
